Leukemia
Leukemia is cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue. Blood-forming tissue includes
bone marrow. Leukemia causes large numbers of
blood cells to be produced and enter the bloodstream.
There are different kinds of leukemia. Leukemia is either chronic or acute. Chronic tends to get worse slowly while acute tends to get worse quickly. The four common types of leukemia are
chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL),
chronic myeloid leukemia (CML),
acute lymphocytic (lymphoblastic) leukemia (ALL),
and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
