Healthy Iowa Worksites Toolkit

The purpose of this project was to implement a pilot project to use the Healthy Iowa Worksites toolkit
(developed in FY10) at six businesses throughout the state. Three business have participated in the pilot. These three business are the YMCA of Greater Des Moines, Siouxland Mental Health Center, and KSB Bank in cooperation with Hoerner YMCA in Keokuk.
The identified pilot sites were required to utilize the toolkit and complete a final report, providing feedback that will be used to evaluate the usefulness of the toolkit. The required project components include:
  • Assessment
  • Identification of community partners
  • Programming
  • Policy/Environmental Change
  • Evaluation
100 full-time employees were impacted at the YMCA of Greater Des Moines, 66 at Siouxland Mental Health Center, and 54 at the KSB Bank.

Each pilot site completed a survey on what they thought about the toolkit. Results were very positive. There was near 100% participation in the Siouxland and KSB pilots, an increased awareness of policy and environmental change efforts needed, and implementation of an environmental change effort that could have significant impact.
