Nutrition & Physical Activity (NUPA)

Iowans are considered overweight with a body mass index greater than or equal to 25.0 kg/m2, and obese with a body mass index greater than or equal to 30.0 kg/m2. Recommended physical activity is defined as either regular physical activity 30 or more minutes per day for 5 or more days per week or vigorous activity 20 or more minutes per day for 3 or more days per week.

NUPA Workgroup

The Iowa Cancer Consortium’s NUPA Work Group is a diverse group of partners that work to improve the health of Iowans through projects relating to Nutrition and Physical Activity. Members of this work group share current activities and look forward to collaborating on a project in Iowa.

Current Workgroup Priorities: 

  • Increase access and availability of health food and beverage options
  • Increase the proportion of adults meeting recommended levels of physical activity through community design, infrastructure, and initiatives
  • Decrease the proportion of adults who are overweight or obese
  • Collaborative project TBD as a result of a work group survey
