The Iowa Department of Public Health annouced a new staff member has been added to the Care for Yourself (CFY) Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (BCCEDP). Ashley Ezzio is joining the CFY team as the Outreach and Professional Development Coordinator. 

Ashley received her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in Child, Adult and Family Services with a minor in Women’s Studies. She is also a certified Birth Doula through DONA International and a certified Childbirth Educator through the International Childbirth Education Association. In the past Ashley has worked in Mercy Children’s Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, supporting families and connecting them with resources. She also worked in the IDPH Bureau of Family Health as a Maternal/Child Health Intern which gave her the opportunity to later become an official part of the bureau, helping coordinate the Infant Mortality CoIIN. 

Her most recent work experience comes from the Young Women’s Resource Center, where she was a Childbirth and Perinatal Specialist. In this role she worked closely with pregnant and parenting women, ensuring they had access to proper care, education, and community resources. In this role she also coordinated a doula program focused on advocating for oppressed and underserved populations.
