Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer is a cancer that begins in the lining cells of the bladder.  The bladder is an organ in the lower part of the abdomen.  The bladder stores urine until it can pass out of the body.  There are three types of bladder cancer, named after the type of cells that become malignant (cancerous).  These three types are: transitional cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma.  Most bladder cancer begins in transitional cells.
