The Iowa Cancer Consortium

In 2001, the Iowa Legislature commissioned a detailed study of the impact of cancer on the state. Their report, "The Face of Cancer In Iowa," led to the formation of the Iowa Consortium for Comprehensive Cancer Control. Now referred to as the Iowa Cancer Consortium (ICC), it is represented by over 100 people from approximately 50 entities, including researchers, legislators, insurance companies, health care providers, genetics, faith-based organizations, hospice, pharmaceutical companies, cancer centers, cancer survivors, health systems, voluntary health organizations, state and local public health agencies, schools, and a variety of other agencies with interest in cancer control.

The Iowa Cancer Consortium has developed - and is putting into action - a state comprehensive cancer control plan (Changing the Face of Cancer in Iowa). Iowa ‘s Comprehensive Cancer Control plan provides the framework for what needs to be done. The development and implementation of the plan:

Shows strong commitment made by Iowa Cancer Consortium members.

Provides an unprecedented opportunity to alleviate the burden of cancer in Iowa.

Calls upon public officials, other decision-makers, and Iowa’s citizens to get involved in the implementation of the plan.

Sets initial priorities for the implementation of the CCC plan.

Encourages others to get involved in helping put the CCC plan into action.
